At a young age of 26, in 1986, Mayor JIMMY JAYME L. CLERIGO was designated as a Barangay captain of Barangay Mabigo (City Proper) and became the ABC Federation on October 1, 1987. He was elected as City Councilor on February 2, 1988 and completed as such for three(3) terms on June 30, 1998. However, within said term as City Councilor, he also assumed as City Vice Mayor by succession for the period, April 13, 1998 to June 30, 1998. He also occupied an appointive position as City Administrator from October 1, 1998 to February 28, 2001 and as Vice Mayor, he assumed on July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2010 after 3 terms.

Finally, he was elected in May 2010 elections as City Mayor and assumed as Chief Executive on July 1, 2010 up to the present in his 2nd term. His Administration is marked by massive infrastructure development, like concreting of farm to market roads, public market buildings, Barangay multi-purpose pavements, water systems, day care centers and many others including energization projects up to remote and far-flung sitios. Sanitary Land Fill project is being implemented and can be fully operational as soon as the facilities therein are in place, in compliance with RA 9003. Assistance to indigent citizens are also a part of the concerns as well as the livelihood programs are provided for to the deserving constituents including scholarship programs to bonafide college students. The Senior Citizens are provided with a new building for convenience in their regular weekly meetings and activities.

Disaster preparedness facilities are also well established for any possible natural and man-made eventualities.

To sustain economic growth for animal farmer-producers-raisers, traders and livestock businessmen, the rehabilitation and modernization of the Livestock "Oksyon" Market (LOM) is a timely project out of the financial grant from the Japan 2KR-LOM Project Office of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).

Relevant efforts are also on the agri-tourism aspects to boost opportunities for production of vegetables and rice are given importance. The tourists’ areas like the Balete Tree and the Inland Resort are being proposed for further development in order to attract domestic and foreign tourists. Other attractions are the OISCA Farms and man-made water lagoons are available too.

Much have been done, yet there are still more to be done for Canlaon City to become a Summer Capital and major source of quality rice and varieties of vegetables. Plans are in hand and appropriate efforts can make these into realities in the near future.
